Salim's Garage

Blissville has always housed many different kinds of factories. But today, auto repair shops dominate the landscape.

They are run by Russians, Chileans, Bosnians, Albanians, Peruvians and Bengalis.

Each garage has its own standard.

This is Salim's.

Six months ago at a neighboring garage, a lifter collapsed on top of a mechanic.

He died.

Salim comes from Dhaka, Bangladesh.

In a city of over 12 million, what is a life worth?

Salim speaks Bengali, English and the language of cars.

But inside the garage they all sound like barks.

Salim's is the only garage in the neighborhood to stay open late.

Just one mechanic works there at night.

He is from Ivory Coast.

He works two other jobs before coming to Salim's.

He doesn't just support his family.

He supports a village.

So who can say what a life is worth?

You are a wonderful, wonderful photographer. Loving the details, the images that all of us would just overlook. Makes you want to just keep staring at them.
Thanks for sharing what you see so easily.
